DW HENNINGTON

Welcome to my author's website!

I wrote my first book, Yellow Meat Watermelon over the course of 10 years with no formal training and a long-standing rocky relationship with the written word. I spent a few more years searching for an editor and in 2018 I finally published my story about being convicted of a crime I didn't commit.

I hope my story inspires you to view the world around you with an open heart and mind, and I hope it leads you to seek the truth about what it means to be Black in America.

On a normal Tuesday back in 2000, Damian Hennington (DW) left his home in Dallas, Texas to give a friend a ride to her mother’s house just a few miles down the road when his life turned upside down. A short ride resulted in being pulled over by the police for no apparent reason. What happened next is nothing short of strange, ironic, funny, painful and All-American.

5-star rating on Amazon!

"Yellow Meat Watermelon is a brutally honest and unflinching exploration of race and personal struggles told with the heart of an honorable man. Laugh and cry, but don’t remain on the “sidelines.” Judge if you must but condemn those truly worthy.  Damian’s book should touch you deeply. Come feel his hope, his fear, his pain, and his journey back home."

"The author gives insight on being incarcerated for a crime he did not commit, and all that he had to go through to regain his freedom. Freedom comes at a great cost and when wrongly convicted, nothing anyone or the justice system can do to make up all that was lost. I'm going to read again and recommend to all my academic friends to have as required reading for their students."

"I may be biased because I personally know the author, but nevertheless - Damian Hennington is a master of language and knowledgeable beyond his years. It's terribly unfortunate that he had to go through the situation outlined in this memoir, but through faith, family, love and determination - he came out and WE are blessed that he chose to share the truth behind the curtain with us. I encourage everyone to get this book - read it - share it and talk about it."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

DW Hennington was born in 1972 in San Antonio, Texas, and raised on United States Air Force Bases around the world before settling in California with his family at the age of 10. Throughout his life, DW struggled with dyslexia, a lack of support at home, and racism. This led him to share his brutally honest story about being convicted of a crime he didn't commit and how racism and corruption changed his life forever.

Despite these challenges, DW turned the worst moment of his life into a lesson in resiliency, courage, and life-saving humor. DW lives with his wife Belisa in Northern California where they live and work as writers. DW is the owner of DBH Publishing, a small publishing company committed to helping indie authors publish their work. Yellow Meat Watermelon is DW Hennington’s first publication.
